About me

Ty is a classically trained pianist who loves to teach, compose, and collaborate regardless of genre. He believes that classical music can help him cross into other worlds and create even more music. His earliest exposure to music was joining his Catholic Church’s children’s choir. He became interested in classical piano and film composition. Ty stubbornly persisted putting himself through lessons during his high school years. Ty then attended Central Piedmont Community College and obtained his Associates in Fine Arts in piano studies. Ty then moved onto study at University of North Carolina in Greensboro School of Music where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree of Arts in Music.

While studying at UNCG, Ty started learning more about experimental “New Music.” He loves learning about new musical theories and experimental performance. He sees it as a way of having an arsenal of tools when composing music for concert music and film score projects. Ty was fortunate to be showcased as a composer collaborating and performing alongside with UNCG Sinfonia String ensemble performing his piece “Lost Child,” (2020) for Strings and Piano that aesthetically resembles film music.

While continuing his academic studies, Ty has found a new passion of the sounds of non-western sounds and looks forward into expanding his compositional research in ethnomusicolgy. This came from wanting to combine tradtional western sounds and sounds from his Hmong heritage.

Ty Is currently based in Los Angeles, CA to continue collaborating with filmmakers, composers, and musicians.
